Washakie Museum & Cultural Center

The Washakie Museum and Cultural Center is a Silver LEED Certified project. LEED credits incorporated into the project included rapidly renewable materials, regional materials, low-VOC materials, recycled content, and certified wood.

The new museum and cultural center brings the past to life through engaging exhibits that portray the relationship between the historic people of the Big Horn Basin and their environment.

The Basin’s unique geography and world-class archaeological sites allow the museum to serve as one of the finest interpretive centers for local human history. Exhibits span from ancient mammoth hunters to early settlers and also explore the area’s geology, archaeology, and paleontology. In addition, the museum functions as a hub for visual and performing arts, conferences, conventions, and traveling exhibits.

Serving as Construction Manager at-Risk, Groathouse Construction provided both preconstruction and construction services for the project. Our early involvement helped keep the project on schedule and within budget as design documents were completed for bidding. We also proposed alternative materials and methods, such as using oilfield pipe for driven piles, which reduced costs while contributing to LEED credits. This project reflects our experience as a trusted commercial contractor in Worland.
