Museum & Arts
The Brinton Museum
Groathouse Construction and Malone Belton Abel worked as a collaborative team to bring the owner’s vision to life. Early in planning, the museum explored incorporating green building elements, including pursuing LEED Gold certification. After evaluating the cost impact, the team agreed to forgo formal certification while continuing to emphasize responsible building design and construction practices throughout the project.
The Brinton Museum is located on the historic Quarter Circle A Ranch in Big Horn, Wyoming, just outside Sheridan, and showcases 19th, 20th, and 21st century Western and American Indian art in a setting that is art unto itself. Groathouse served as Construction Manager at-Risk for the 24,000 square foot Forrest E. Mars Jr. Building, which now houses one of the most significant Western and American Indian art collections in the Rocky Mountain West. This project highlights our experience as a commercial contractor in the Sheridan, Wyoming area.
Five times larger than the former museum, the Forrest E. Mars Jr. Building features three floors with four galleries, a museum store, and the Brinton Bistro. The bistro offers both indoor and outdoor dining with 180-degree views of the Bighorn Mountains. Nestled into the hillside, the building is anchored by a two-foot-thick, 51-foot-high, 209-foot-long arched rammed earth wall—the tallest of its kind in North America.
